What might feel different
if you made a little room?
You do not need to make a big decision today. Start by understanding one small part of your routine — and what you might want more of.
Try this two-minute reflection
Think about a recent moment when you wanted a drink. You do not need to record quantities or judge what happened. Just notice the context.
1. What was happening just before?
Were you finishing work, feeling stressed, celebrating, bored, lonely, socialising, or following a familiar routine?
2. What might you have been looking for?
Relief? A reward? Confidence? A way to switch off? Company? Something to look forward to?
3. What else might support that need?
Perhaps rest, connection, a change of scene, something absorbing, or talking to someone you trust.
The point is not to find a perfect answer. It is to get curious about what the habit is doing for you.
Why start with the pattern?
Drinking can become connected to particular feelings, people, places and times of day. Noticing those links can help you understand what you want to change and what kind of support might be useful. It is not a diagnosis, and it does not tell you whether stopping or cutting down is medically safe.

Real experiences, not perfect stories
People's experiences of changing their relationship with alcohol are different. Read independently published stories, with sources and context, rather than assuming one person's journey will be yours.
Explore real stories of change
If you drink heavily or regularly, or experience shaking, sweating, nausea or anxiety when alcohol wears off, speak with your GP or call NHS 111 before stopping or sharply reducing your drinking. Withdrawal can be dangerous. Severe shaking, hallucinations, confusion or seizures require emergency help — call 999.
